Synopsis

Issues include the microeconomics of firm, the microeconomics of the welfare state, and the microeconomics of transitional economies such as China. Microeconomic difficulties in the public sector.

Outcomes

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

be familiar with the way in which economists apply economic theory to analyse how institutions and government microeconomic policies affect economic performance, as well as how such analysis informs their policy recommendations
understand and critically evaluate current policy debates on issues of microeconomic policy and institutions
evaluate the contributions and limitations of economic analysis for helping to understand and evaluate microeconomic policy options.

Within semester assessment: 30%
Examination: 70%
