Synopsis

Students will examine the role of law in the context of sport regulation and policy. Examination of topics including player liability, disciplinary tribunals, management, doping, intellectual property and marketing.

Outcomes

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

examine commercial laws and regulations relating to sports professionals and amateurs
identify legal problems and risks which arise in those scenarios
describe the laws relevant to those scenarios
consider the regulatory framework applied by national and international regulatory bodies in the formalisation of sport
analyse, discuss and apply the laws to predict legal outcomes.

Assessment

Within semester assessment: 70%
Examination: 30%
