Synopsis

This unit provides students with an introduction to research methods and theories in the Humanities. The unit requires students to address critically the theories and methods underpinning research in their own discipline of research, as well as developing their general research, argumentation and presentation skills

Outcomes

On the completion of this unit students will be able to:

Demonstrate critical reading and analysis skills
provide a synthesis of diverse material on specific topics and an evaluation of their applicability to specific research projects
Effectively use research tools such as databases
Present the results of their research coherently and effectively, both in written and in oral forms

Assessment

Written (8000 words): 90%
Presentation (1000 words): 10%
