Notes Previously coded PLT3990 SynopsisThis unit provides an introduction to environmental politics, focusing on the politicisation of environmental problems. The course is divided into three sections. Part one explores the ideas and values which have informed the environmental debate. Part two examines the evolution and development of environmental groups, such as green political parties and the environmental movement. Part three will consider state responses to environmental problems. Critical attention will be directed to the structural barriers to ecologically sustainable development, and the continuing contradictory environment and development imperatives facing the state.
