Notes Previously coded GLO3000 SynopsisGlobal Studies is designed to prepare students for the experience of study abroad. The unit compels students to engage with the prospect of 'cultural difference' through an examination of the place of the individual in the global movement of people. We use case studies to explore a range of cross-cultural encounters connecting historical ideas with contemporary concepts of conflict and conquest, forced and voluntary diasporas, migration and asylum. The unit considers the ways in which identity is challenged by mass-movement and how multicultural policies have developed to assimilate, integrate - and separate - cultural minorities. Objectives
