Notes Previously coded EUR3080 SynopsisThis unit investigates the way Europe came to overcome its divisions in the second half of the twentieth century and the ways it prevented conflict at both the national and international levels. It inquires into the values and ideas that allowed it to unite and explores the notion of integration at both the national and international levels. The core areas of focus include: the division between East and West, social protest, dissent, the welfare state, party systems and social movements, determining the validity of a single European experience, issues of identity and nationalism, the birth of European institutions, and the demise of the revolutionary ideology.
