Notes Previously coded GRN3235 SynopsisThis unit will explore the contemporary German novel, focussing on key issues such as national identity and the construction of the self within the framework of political and social change. It will encourage a close critical reading of texts produced mainly in the last decade, examining modes of narratives in the light of contemporary theory. ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this subject students should have developed an in-depth understanding of key examples of the contemporary German novel and completed detailed analyses of each of the novels in their socio-historical context. Students will be able to engage in informed discussions about the literature of the period in its context and to employ relevant theoretical concepts. They will be able to present the results of their own research in form of a class paper and a written essay. Assessment
