Notes Previously coded MUS1100 SynopsisThis unit explores the key composers, musical styles and genres from the medieval period to the present. It discusses the musical work in historical and social contexts. The unit introduces students to issues in music historiography and contemporary performance practice. ObjectivesUpon completion of this unit, students will have developed an understanding of the historical and social forces that shaped the major strands of Western music through studying a number of representative works. Students will have developed the ability to think critically about music-making in the past and present. Assessment
