Notes Previously coded PUB5001 SynopsisAs for APG4800 ObjectivesOn completion of this unit the student should have acquired: 1) an understanding the importance of the book in cultural development;2) a critical awareness of the forms of publishing and the culture of the book;3) an understanding of the publishing industry in Australia both past and present;4) an appreciation of the study of the history of the book; 5) an understanding of government policy and publishing;6) advanced research and presentation skills, both written and oral. AssessmentHistorical perspectives on the book and publishing as agents of change. A critical introduction to the history of publishing and approaches to the study of publishing today in Australian and international contexts. The study of the various cycles in the history of the book analysed and assessed. The book as an object of government policy, value addition in publishing, print and electronic delivery, women in publishing, the publishing firm and social contribution of the book.
