Synopsis

Topics covered include contemporary issues in, and the technologies of, integrated information systems for business enterprises; accounting processes and process oriented business information systems; databases for accounting information systems including database theory, design and development where students will develop and implement a practical accounting database design; design and development of sophisticated financial management models using business analytics and the advanced features of a modern spreadsheet package.

Objectives

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

  1. explain the relationship between accounting information systems and processes and enterprise systems
  2. apply database management concepts in the context of accounting systems
  3. use database and spreadsheet modelling software to produce, store and analyse information for business decision making
  4. analyse, communicate, and apply the model-building and model-solving concepts of management science in the context of accounting systems
  5. apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills to individual and/or group activities dealing with advanced accounting information systems and demonstrate in an individual summative assessment task the acquisition of comprehensive understanding of the topics covered by AFF3851.
