The Econometrics major provides an opportunity for students from any discipline to enhance their quantitative skills and be equipped to undertake other rigorous postgraduate coursework programs in business. It offers a wide breadth of knowledge and will provide the quantitative tools and expertise required to carry out regression analysis, forecasting and financial market analysis. Students will also acquire the ability to take responsibility for designing and implementing applied econometric projects and be able to proficiently communicate the results to wider audiences. Such skills are extremely attractive to the business and finance community.

To complete the Econometrics major in the Graduate Diploma in Economic Studies, students must complete:

(a.) Four units (24 points) from the following, with at least one being selected from those marked with an asterisk (*):

• ECC2410/ETC2410/ETC3440 Introductory econometrics*
• ECC2440/ETC2440 Mathematics for economics and business
• ECC3410/ETC3410 Applied econometrics
• ETC2430 Actuarial statistics
• ETC2450 Applied forecasting for business and economics
• ETC2480 Decision models for managers
• ETC2500 Market research analysis
• ETC2520 Probability and statistical inference for economics and business
• ETC3400 Principles of econometrics*
• ETC3450 Time series analysis for business and economics
• ETC3460 Financial econometrics
• ETC3490 Business simulation
• ETC3500 Survey data analysis
• ETC3510 Modelling in finance and insurance

(b.) two units (12 points) from:

(i.) units listed in (a.)

(ii.) second and third-year units available in the Bachelor of Economics degree.
