Students are required to complete 48 points of study in their chosen stream comprising a thesis and two coursework units. The streams are:

• composition
• ethnomusicology
• musicology
• performance

The coursework units and the thesis topic are chosen in consultation with the music honours coordinator.

Thesis

Students complete units from one of the following streams:

Composition

• ATS4838 Special project: Composition and music technology part 1
• ATS4839 Special project: Composition and music technology part 2

Ethnomusicology and musicology

• ATS4835 Music thesis part 1
• ATS4836 Music thesis part 2

Performance

• ATS4831 Music special project: Practical study part 1
• ATS4832 Music special project: Practical study part 2

Coursework units

Students complete the following unit:

• ATS4833 Research methods

Students complete one unit from one of the following streams:

Composition

• ATS4834 Special research project in music

Ethnomusicology

• ATS4663 Ethnomusicological fieldwork techniques and technology

Musicology

• ATS4834 Special research project in music

Performance

• ATS4664 Music pedagogy
• ATS4834 Special research project in music
