Monash University Handbook 2011 Honours - Area of Study

Students are required to complete 48 points of study comprising a thesis and two coursework units.

The coursework units and the thesis topic are chosen in consultation with the Japanese studies honours coordinator.

Thesis

Students complete one of the following options:

• ATS4160 Honours thesis in Japanese Part 1 and ATS4161 Honours thesis in Japanese Part 2
• ATS4162 Honours thesis in Japanese - Part A - Part 1 and ATS4163 Honours thesis in Japanese - Part A - Part 2
• ATS4164 Honours thesis in Japanese - Part B - Part 1 and ATS4165 Honours thesis in Japanese - Part B - Part 2

Coursework units

Students complete two of the following units:

• ATS4653 LCL honours workshop: Theory and method in the humanities
• ATS4689 Special reading course (Asian studies)
• 12 points of language study at the appropriate level

Note: If on exchange, students will complete the equivalent of 24 points of coursework at a university in Japan.
