ARC1101 - Architecture workshop

Synopsis

Delivered in conjunction with ARC1001. Provides practical knowledge, skills and fabrication techniques for the production of models and prototypes. Safe workshop practices are introduced to enable the physical testing of design proposals through the process of model-making.

Objectives

On successful completion of this unit, students will:
1. Be able to select different approaches to model making and prototyping and understand their implication for the design concept and process and as a mode of presentation; 2. be familiar with a range of fabrication techniques as they apply to construction of architectural models and prototypes; 3. have a working understanding of the application and operation of manual and electric workshop equipment; 4. Understand the occupational health and safety policy requirements of the model making workshop environment and be able to demonstrate safe work practices on a selected range of equipment.

Exercises and projects: 85%
Attendance and participation: 15%

Contact hours

12 hours per week, including 4 hours lecture/workshop and 8 hours of independent study.
