    Course description

This course is designed to prepare graduates for a career in media sales. Students should form a broad conceptual understanding of the media and advertising industry environment and specific understanding of media audience research methodologies, media planning, buying and selling methods and customer relationship development.

Following the full-time six-week block session, students will have an opportunity to begin a 12-month employment cadetship at a leading media company as an entry-level media executive (salary range of about $32,000 to $40,000 per annum).

Course objectives

The learning goals associated with this course are to: acquire an in depth knowledge of the Australian media industry environment; describe and then compare the media audience research methodologies used in the industry; apply media audience research in media planning and buying processes; develop media planning and buying alternatives for Australian advertisers and their advertising agencies; negotiate media proposals with media buyers.

Students must complete four core units (24 points):

  • MKX9010 Introduction to the media sales environment
  • MKX9021 Media customer relationship development
  • MKX9031 Principles of media planning, buying and selling
  • MKX9040 Media audience research
