Course description

The GradCertIMS course prepares students who have a first qualification in another discipline area, for professional careers in information systems (IS) and information management (IM). The course provides students with understanding of foundation information technology concepts and fundamental IS and IM principles, and develops further knowledge and understanding of one or more specialist areas within the IS and IM fields, including the major theoretical and professional debates in each area.

The GradCertIMS is both an entry award and an exit award for the Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS), the Master of Information Management and Systems Professional, the Graduate Diploma in Information Management and Systems, or the Graduate Diploma in Information and Knowledge Management.

Course objectives

The objectives of the Graduate Certificate in Information Management and Systems are to: provide students with knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles in the disciplinary areas that underpin the information technology field; provide students with knowledge, understanding, and experiences that transcend technologies and are robust over time so that students are well placed to deal with ongoing, rapid changes in the information technology field; and develop students' understanding of aspects of information management and systems to a level of depth and sophistication consistent with senior professional practice.

Credit for prior studies

Students who have completed a graduate qualification with a recognised specialisation in information systems or information management may be granted credit. A maximum of 12 points of credit is available.
