Course description

The School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine offers a coursework program in organisational psychology. The program is designed to satisfy the fifth and sixth-year requirements of the Psychologists’ Registration Board of Victoria for specialist registration as an organisational psychologist. The course is accredited by the Australian Psychological Society.

Course objectives

On completion of the course graduates will: 1. be able to demonstrate the knowledge, competence, skills and attitudes that will enable them to operate as practicing organisational psychologists at a level at least equal to the best of their peers in Australia or overseas; 2. demonstrate a continuing professional approach to their work, community responsibilities and personal development; 3. demonstrate intellectual and cultural curiosity as a preparation for lifelong learning; 4. demonstrate an appreciation of different cultures, and the relevance of culture to the practice of organisational psychology; 5. be able to apply psychological principles and methods to understand and influence work behaviour, worker attitudes, organisational structures and organisational systems; 6. be able to apply valid, reliable and scientifically grounded methods in order to assist organisations to achieve effectiveness at the level of the organisation, the group and the individual; and 7. promote and raise the profile of organisational psychology and act to provide the community with information and access to the services of organisational psychologists.
