Units indexed by faculty Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Sciences – Community Mental HealthCourse code: 1976 + Course abbreviation: GradDipMH(Cmnty) + Total credit points required: 48 + 4 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOff-campus (Clayton – P/T only) Course descriptionThis course, conducted jointly by Monash University (School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine) and the University of Melbourne (Department of Psychiatry), is directed towards health care professionals working within the mental health and psychiatric disability fields who wish to upgrade and develop their skills and knowledge in contemporary community mental health practice. Course objectivesOn completion of the course graduates will have: 1. developed an understanding of models of mental health service delivery, including understanding of their historical, political and social contexts; 2. developed a greater understanding of assessments of needs for community mental health services in clinical contexts; 3. developed a greater understanding of available methods of clinical intervention with clients with mental health problems, and the evidence base for their effectiveness; 4. understand evaluation of clinical intervention in routine and research contexts; 5. develop and demonstrate ability to apply their understandings of community mental health theory in clinical and organisational contexts; and 6. the opportunity for development of special interests in service delivery in community mental health.
