Course description

This course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, assists clinicians and public health professionals to become familiar with clinical research methodology and upgrade their skills in epidemiology. It provides a detailed understanding of the units of epidemiology and biostatistics to a level that enables critical and detailed appraisal of epidemiological literature and the conduct of projects requiring epidemiological and biostatistical expertise. The course articulates with the Master of Clinical Epidemiology or can lead to the Master of Public Health.

Course objectives

On completion of this course, students should: 1. have detailed understanding of epidemiology and biostatistics; 2. be familiar with clinical research methodology; 3. be able to demonstrate the ability to critically appraise medical literature; 4. be able to participate in projects requiring epidemiological and biostatistical expertise; and 5. be able to demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics to clinical practice.

Assessment

Assessment includes written assignments and examinations.
