Units indexed by faculty Graduate Certificate of Emergency Health (Paramedic)Course code: 3876 + Course abbreviation: GradCertEmHth(Pmed) + Total credit points required: 24 + 2 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOff-campus (Peninsula –P/T only) Course descriptionThis course, offered by the Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice, supports students both in improving their clinical practice and knowledge related to the delivery of emergency health services, and their preparation for leadership positions. Participants explore their own role and the role of their employer within the context of an integrated emergency medical system, considering the issues and trends that influence scope of practice and service delivery. A learning contract will be used to assist students to identify practice and knowledge gaps and to draw on their workplace experience to promote self-directed learning opportunities aimed at improving their clinical practice. Course objectivesOn completion of the course graduates will have the knowledge, skills and attributes to: 1. Articulate the possible future trends in the delivery of pre-hospital services and the impact on the role of the professional ambulance paramedic; 2. Discuss the influences of a changing health care environment and population on the role of the ambulance paramedic; 3. Relate the contemporary issues and influences of emergency medical service systems to the role of the ambulance paramedic; 4. Critically review their clinical practice and identify suitable learning experiences to meet their learning needs; 4. Demonstrate the attributes required of an interactional professional in community based emergency health; 6. Improve their ability to prepare for an advanced clinical practitioner role having explored an area of interest related to the field of community based emergency health.
