Students will gain an appreciation of the role of the aeromedical retrieval services and their interrelationships with other health providers. They will specifically develop the skills and knowledge required to adapt their clinical practice to the aeromedical retrieval environment, taking into consideration the effects of flight on susceptible medical, surgical and traumatic conditions. Course objectivesOn completion of the course students should be able to: 1. describe the role of the aeromedical retrieval services nationally and their interrelationships; 2. demonstrate the ability to adapt their clinical practice to the aeromedical retrieval environment; 3. demonstrate an ability to work effectively and safely as a member of an aeromedical retrieval flight team; 4. apply the principles of cultural awareness and sensitivity to caring for patients in the aeromedical retrieval environment; and 5. demonstrate the appropriate professional attributes to enable them to work effectively as part of the aeromedical retrieval team and to promote the continued development of the practice of aeromedical retrieval. Credit for prior learningNormal RPL provisions apply. All applicants who have completed previous studies in aeromedical retrieval offered through Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice prior to the establishment of the Graduate Certificate and who are currently employed by an ambulance service or related agency working as a flight paramedic will be awarded 50 per cent credit for the course.
