Course description

The program is intended to appeal both to recent graduates who wish to enhance their first qualification with studies in the area of electrical and computer systems engineering to improve their prospects in this area of sustained employment growth, and to mature students who wish to select units that suit their personal and professional needs as they develop from time to time and in so doing to accumulate credit towards the program over a period of some years.

Articulation and credit

Credit is available to candidates who transfer from the postgraduate diploma to the masters without graduating at diploma level. Articulation is subject to approval upon satisfactory academic performance.

Course structure

This program course normally consists of:

a.) 48 points of coursework units only, however with the approval of the course director, students may undertake either:

b.) 36 points of coursework units and a 12 point Electrical and computer systems engineering project, or

c.) 24 points of coursework units and a 24 point Electrical and computer systems engineering thesis which will be assessed by two internal examiners (this option is intended for candidates intending to proceed to doctoral studies).

In the case of those taking options a.) or b.) up to 12 points may be drawn from any postgraduate program of the university, with prior approval of the course director.

  • ECE5053 Electrical energy generation and supply
  • ECE5054 Electrical energy – power converters and motor control
  • ECE5055 Electrical energy – power electronics applications
  • ECE5058 Electrical energy – high voltage engineering
  • ECE5063 Large scale digital design
  • ECE5074 Advanced computer architecture
  • ECE5075 Real time embedded systems
  • ECE5076 Computer vision
  • ECE5077 Advanced computing techniques
  • ECE5078 Intelligent robotics
  • ECE5094 Project A
  • ECE5095 Project B

Total: 48 points

* Note that not all units will be available in any given year.
