Course description

The program is intended to appeal both to recent graduates who wish to enhance their first qualification with studies in the area of electrical and computer systems engineering to improve their prospects in this area of sustained employment growth, and to mature students who wish to select units that suit their personal and professional needs as they develop from time to time and in so doing to accumulate credit towards the program over a period of some years.

Course structure

The postgraduate diploma requires the completion of units* totalling 48 points. This comprises units totalling 36 points from group 1, and up to 12 points from group 2 units currently approved for the Master of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering course. Alternatively students may select units totalling up to 12 points which may be taken from any postgraduate program of the university, as approved by the course director.

Group 1 units include level four units offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering related to the study of electrical and computer systems engineering and its applications, and units as determined by the course director.

The minimum length of the course is one year full-time, or the equivalent part-time. As the course is intended to be a professional development program, there is no maximum duration for completion of studies.

  • ECE4053 Electrical energy – generation and supply
  • ECE4055 Electrical energy – power electronic applications
  • ECE4058 Electrical energy – high voltage engineering
  • ECE4074 Advanced computer architecture
  • ECE4077 Advanced computing techniques
  • ECE4302 Modern control systems
Group 2

Select the remaining two units from:

  • ECE5012 Applied digital signal processing
  • ECE5053 Electrical energy – generation and supply
  • ECE5055 Electrical energy – power electronic applications
  • ECE5058 Electrical energy – high voltage engineering
  • ECE5074 Advanced computer architecture
  • ECE5077 Advanced computing techniques
  • ECE5302 Modern control systems

Total: 48 points

*Note that not all units will be available in any given year
