Course description

This course is designed to meet the needs of educators wishing to develop an understanding of adult and vocational education and training in diverse institutional, community and workplace settings, both local and global.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must hold either:

  • an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year, or
  • an approved three-year bachelors degree (or equivalent) and a fourth year of study, or
  • an approved four-year bachelors degree, or
  • qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

Course structure

The course consists of 48 points of study. Students will complete four 12-point units (three specialist elective units and one general elective unit):

Specialist elective units

  • EDF6801 Educating and learning in the workplace
  • EDF6802 Adult education and training: theories and practices
  • EDF6810 Education, work and learning careers

General elective unit

One unit chosen from:

  • EDF8204 Social context of education, policy and practice, or
  • any 12-point units selected from the units offered within the education postgraduate coursework studies programs.

Articulation

Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Work and Learning Studies) may complete a masters degree by undertaking up to a further two units (including a research core unit).
