This unit examines the changing contexts, organisation and relationships of work and learning. Political, social and economic forces that are transforming work and learning are analysed, including global trends towards a knowledge economy, flexible workforces and learning societies. Students will investigate the implications of changes to work and learning for both educators and learners in post-compulsory education and training settings, including the workplace and community. Students will explore how such changes are creating new learning spaces, reconstituting the identities of educators and learners, and shaping the work and learning careers of young and older adult learners.
Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:
Four assignments equivalent to 8,000 words:
Assignment 1: Synopsis/ presentation of text (700 words) 5%: (Objective 1 and 4)
Assignment 2: Debate or Reading Review (1800 words) 20%: (Objectives 1, 2 & 4)
Assignment 3: Class presentation (1500 words) 15%: (Objectives 1, 3 and 4)
Assignment 4: Case study report (4000 words) 60%: (Objectives 1-4).
3 hours per week
