Course description

This double-degree masters program provides a broad-based foundation in the knowledge and skills required for employment and active involvement in sustainable development and environmental management in Asian societies.

It is designed for students who are particularly interested in Asian studies and development in the Asian context. The double degree combines the strengths of the two partner programs, and offers postgraduate students a chance to considerably enhance their qualifications in a course tailored to their interests but in less time than it would usually take to gain two individual masters degrees.

Minimum pass grade

To graduate with the Masters, students must gain a credit (60 C) or above in core units and a minimum credit average overall.

MIDEA component (60 points)

  • IDA4140 Urbanisation and regional development in the Indo-Pacific rims (6 points)
  • IDA4230 Research and analysis in political ecology (6 points)
  • IDA5130 Environmental revolutions (6 points)
  • IDA5220 The art and business of international development (6 points)
  • IDA5310 Final project in M.IDEA (internship-based client project) (12 points), or
  • IDA5400 Final project in M.IDEA (supervised research) (12 points)
  • IDEA electives (at the course director's discretion) (24 points)

Master of Asian Studies component (60 points)

  • AST4000 Contemporary issues in Asia (12 points)
  • AST5220 Investigating Asia (12 points)
  • AST5110 Research project in Asian studies (12 points)
  • Asian studies electives (at the course director's discretion) (24 points)

Exit points

There are no alternative exits points from this course. After successful completion of 24 points, student may apply to exit the program with a Graduate Certificate in Arts, or after successful completion of 48 points, with either* a Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies or Graduate Diploma in International Development and Environmental Analysis, or after successful completion or 72 points with either* a Master of Asian Studies or Master of International Development and Environmental Analysis or any combination of the above.
