Units indexed by faculty Graduate Diploma in Translation StudiesCourse code: 3082 + Course abbreviation: GradDipTransSt + Total credit points required: 48 + 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Clayton) Course descriptionThe course seeks to develop students’ skills in translation to and from English and another language, and their awareness of practical and theoretical approaches to translation and translation studies. The main languages available are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish, and other languages depending on student numbers. Students will be given a foundation in theories of translation and will also receive training in research on translation studies. An introduction to the field of translation studies is supplemented by a translation project and elective units that offer a wide range of choices, thus enabling students to work on topics tailored to their interests, whether they be vocational or theoretical/literary. Students who are enrolling in the Arabic stream will need to have their course of study approved by the course coordinator. Exit pointsStudents may apply to exit the program after the successful completion of 24 points with a Graduate Certificate in Arts. ArticulationStudents require a credit average in the graduate diploma program to transfer to the Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies by coursework.
