Synopsis: This unit is a basic introduction to the concepts, theories and research developed in sociological studies of work and technology. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the fundamental influences work and technology have on societies. The influence of working life and technological development on the social careers of individuals will also be emphasised.
Assessment: Assignment (1100 words): 25% + Assignment (1600 words): 35% + Theoretical essay (1800 words): 40% + Third-year level students will be required to build on sociological perspectives to develop and apply their theoretical understanding of assignments.
Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
Prerequisites: Two second-year sociology units
