Synopsis: As for SCY2570
Objectives: Students who complete this unit: 1.Will understand the changing and important role of a range of quantitative methods in the social sciences; 2.Will develop analytical skills in research design, data collection and analysis in order to critically interpret data; 3.Be able to undertake an independent sociological research project and write a research report that will include research design, data collection and analysis. 4.Apply three methods of data nalysis in both written assignments.
Assessment: 1.Minor practical assignment (1000 words): 25%; 2.Research report (2500 words): 50%; 3.Exam (1 hour): 25%
Contact Hours: 1 two-hour seminar per week
Prerequisites: First year sequence or permission
