Synopsis: A dissertation of 15,000 words on an approved topic selected and researched by the candidate under the supervision of a member of staff in social welfare with expertise in the proposed area of research.

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject students will be able to: 1. Identify an area of social and community welfare theory or practice requiring investigation; 2. Understand major approaches to practice-based research; 3. Tailor research methods to the development of social and community welfare theory and practice; 4. Prepare and deliver a seminar on a discipline-specific topic of research. 5. Articulate and address learning objective(s) of their choosing.
