Synopsis: This unit explores theoretical frameworks in casework practice, including systems theory, feminist casework, radical casework, problem solving and crisis intervention theory. In particular attention is paid to the process of casework, and how theory is implemented in assessments and case plans.

Objectives: Upon completion of this unit, each student should have: 1. Demonstrated understanding of their own implicit practice and how these affect casework practice; 2. An ability to apply more than one theoretical framework to welfare practice; 3. Demonstrated understanding of the general casework process

Assessment: Case study (2500 words): 60% + Examination (2 hours): 40%

Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar) per week

Prerequisites: SCW1303, SCW1304, SCW1305 or permission.
