Synopsis: The contemporary labour market is changing and this unit provides students with a critical understanding of how the Australian labour market works and how job seekers can best position themselves to obtain meaningful work and build successful professional careers. This unit will (a) develop students' understanding of the processes of professional job markets and the recruitment strategies of potential employers; (b) develop students' ability to research and analyse labour markets to identify skill requirements and career potential; (c) provide students with practical instruction in a number of job search activities; and (d) develop students' career-management skills and capacities.
Assessment: A labour market and skills interpretation exercise (equivalent to 3,000 words): 60% + Career potential and management plan (including CV) (equivalent to 1,500 words): 40%
Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar) per week
