Synopsis: PHL1020 consists of a set of optional components, from which students must choose two. The components offered in any year will be drawn from the following list: (i) Beginning Logic; (ii) Time, Self and Freedom; (iii) Greeks and the Good Life; (iv) Philosophy of Sex; and (v) Law, Liberty and Society. Objectives: To extend and develop the capacity of students to argue critically about a range of philosophical issues either through informal discussion of moral and metaphysical problems or through more formal methods of logical analysis.
Assessment: Three short exercises (1250 words): 30% + Essay (1250 words): 30% + Examination: 40%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
