Synopsis: The unit is taught through interactive seminars and workshops addressing the relevant issues associated with the formation and management of an ensemble, repertoire and composition/arrangement/orchestration of scores for the ensemble and its musical direction.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have gained an introduction to ensemble direction and management through the development of composition/arranging skills, baton techniques, score preparation and rehearsal techniques for both standard and diverse ensemble orchestrations

Assessment: Written (1500 Words): 30%; Practical performance and arrangement/composition (3000 Words equivalent: 70%
