Synopsis: The unit introduces the chemical and physical basis of rubber elasticity along with the specific terminology of the industry. This is the basis for later topics on the specific properties of different rubber polymers, fillers and additives. Students select components and design rubber formulations for specific applications in a range of case study activities.
Assessment: Assignments 50%. Exam 50%.
