MMS-ALFRED Second semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: An overview of measures and issues in clinical research; sampling and inference; selecting items, reducing items and creating aggregate scores; inter-rater and intra-rater reliability; reliability and interval consistency of responses; assessing the validity of measures; responsiveness of measures to significant clinical change; strategies for gathering data; wording of questions and design of response categories; data entry and management and handling of missing data.
Objectives: On completion of this unit, students should be able to: 1. apply measurement principles and methods in the critical assessment; 2. develop measures employed in clinical and epidemiological research.
