Synopsis: Heat transfer modes: conduction, convection and radiation; steady heat conduction, circuit analysis of steady and unsteady conduction. The equations of conservation of mass, momentum and energy for convection heat transfer, differential and integral analysis, non-dimensional groups and the analogy between momentum and heat transfer. Similarity, approximate and numerical solutions for forced convection boundary layer heat transfer.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Tests: 15% + Assignment: 15%
Contact Hours: 22 lectures and 22 practice classes/laboratory hours
