Synopsis: This unit will cover a range of issues relating to taxation litigation and drafting, including the following topics: notices of objection, ruling applications, appeal statements, notices of appeal, presenting submissions, High Court Special Leave applications, and preparation of opinions and advice.
Objectives: On completion of this unit, students will have a solid understanding of the taxation litigation and appeal process, the ruling system and the Australian Taxation Office's information gathering powers. They will also have an understanding of key issues relating to the preparation of opinions and submissions in the area of taxation law.
Assessment: Writing memorandum (3750 words): 50% Mooting: 30% Drafting exercise (1500 words): 20%
