Clayton First semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: This unit aims to consolidate and develops students' linguistic skills and sociocultural knowledge within the pre-intermediate range in spoken and written Japanese.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. Express likes and dislikes. 2. Make comparisons. 3. Talk about past experiences. 4. Describe the weather. 5. Make inferences. 6. Make and describe travel plans. 7. Express opinions. 8. Express obligations and expectations. 9. Understand and use expressions required at post offices and banks in Japan. 10. Recognise the kanji introduced at previous levels, and 150 newly introduced characters.
Assessment: Mid-semester test (50 minutes): 15% + Final examination (2 hours): 35% + Speaking test: 10% + Listening comprehension test: 15% + Assignments: 15% + Quizzes and class performance: 10%
Contact Hours: 4 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 3 hours tutorials/seminars) per week
Prerequisites: Japanese 2 or equivalent
