Synopsis: This unit is the second part of a one-year first-year sequence for Japanese background speakers. It aims to further expand student's knowledge of the Japanese language and culture and to equip students to be able to adapt their language skills to their intellectual and social activities in both Japanese and Australian societies. It also aims to assist students to develop their critical awareness of identity in cross-cultural contexts.
Assessment: Ongoing assessment, including quizzes, translation and on-line discussion: 35% + Essay (equivalent to 1500 words in English): 20% + Oral presentation: 15% + Final exam (1.5 hours): 30%
Contact Hours: 4 hours (2 x 2 hour seminars) per week
