Synopsis: A continuation of INM1010. Lectures explore the historical, cultural, and political background to the symbols of the Indonesian state while practicals and tutorials continue to develop proficiency in basic communication tasks, though with a greater emphasis on travel related themes.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. demonstrate greater accuracy in basic grammatical structures of the Indonesian language. 2. Discuss some of the cultural and historical developments that have shaped Indonesian. 3. Extend their use of Indonesian to communicate everyday needs with particular emphasis on travel 4. Apply acquired learning skills to new language learning environments.5. Demonstrate greater ability in the use of the Internet and associated tools for research on aspects of language and culture related to Indonesia.

Assessment: Spoken presentation 10 minutes 25%; Cultural Journal (in English)(1000 words): 15%; Short tasks (500 words): 10%; Written Examination: 2 hours 30%; Spoken Exam 20 minutes 20%.

Contact Hours: 4 hours (1 x lecture, 1 x tutorial and 2 x practicals) per week

Off-campus attendance requirements: 1 weekend school or equivalent hours with private tutor.
