Synopsis: As for FRN3801
Objectives: On completion of this subject students will have acquired a critical understanding of representations of women and the female body in the context of social history, and with particular reference to 19th-century France. They will engage with questions of narrative strategy, pictorial representation, and psychoanalytic theory.
Assessment: Class presentation (1500 words): 25% + Essay (2000 words): 45% + Explication de texte: 30% + Fourth-year students will be expected to read more extensively in primary and/or secondary literature and will write an essay requiring more analytical/theoretical discussion.
