Synopsis: The main aims of this unit are to introduce students to business processes and their development life cycle and to present the case for the integration of business processes in integrated business systems such as ERPs. Topics covered include: business processes, process hierarchies, process engineering and reengineering using an industrial strength modelling tool (ARIS), EPC diagrams, workflow as an implementation of process, modelling techniques, performance of implemented processes, process measurement techniques (simulation, balanced scorecard). Tutorials will include: financial and logistical processes (SAP), process modelling (ARIS) and Workflow development (SAP Workflow and Staffware).

Assessment: Examination 60%. Assignments, class tests and laboratory exercises : 40%. Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit.
