Synopsis: Introduction to the principles and techniques of data management with computers - sourcing data through well designed sample surveys, organising and accessing data efficiently, summarising data. An overview of statistical techniques for making decisions with data - hypothesis testing with quantitative and caregorical data. Introduction to methods for modelling data relationships - simple and multiple regression, analysis of variance; principles of risk analysis - building quantitative models of risk.
Assessment: Written (3 assignments - computing and report): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 70%
Contact Hours: Two 1-hour lectures and one 2-hour tutorial per week
