Synopsis: This unit is designed to introduce students to basic communication skills, including literacy skills, in more traditional forms as well as the pedagogy of using learning technologies in today's classrooms. Different learning styles and the way in which learning takes place and its relationship to teaching, and in particular teaching adolescents will also be investigated. Teaching and communicating with adolescents requires developing curriculum and assessment that meets the needs of multiple groups within the educational community and will be a major consideration in this unit.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to critically reflect on their personal beliefs, values and experiences about communication, learning and assessment; articulate some of their professional learning as teachers, identifying significant change moments in their journey; competently use a variety of communication strategies in teaching contexts; draw on a range of learning theories and principles to create learning opportunities for students in a range of contexts; design assessment tasks and feedback processes that support student learning.

Assessment: Assignment (50%); a structured response in a learning log (50%)
