Synopsis: The design and production of illustrations in children's books as a means of exploring visual literacy. Contemporary and traditional children's book illustration, particularly the variety of media techniques, and intertextuality between image and text. Students produce an illustrated book, using traditional media alongside digital processes.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should; have developed skills in editing, producing and binding a children's story book using visual art skills to make appropriate illustrations for an original story, and should have transferred these to a digital form for processing to produce a bound, illustrated original children's book.

Assessment: Illustrated children's book (3200 words equivalent): 80% + Visual journal (800 words equivalent): 20%
