Synopsis: In recent years there has been a marked increase in the number of children and adolescents with special needs entering the regular school. This unit will assist students in the application of modification strategies to enable special needs students to access the curriculum. Topic areas covered will provide students with a level of skill to enable them to meet students' individual needs across the curriculum.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have acquired: a detailed knowledge of the concept of inclusive schooling and curriculum access issues, an understanding of assessment techniques and their application, the ability to formulate objectives that enhance student participation and learning. They should be familiar with alternative strategies for curriculum modification and instructional delivery and have detailed knowledge of criteria for evaluation.
Assessment: Essay (1500 words): 25% + Construction of assessment tools: 25% + Formulation of strategies: 25% + Essay (1500 words): 25%
