Synopsis: In addition to the portfolios that are to be complied in the other unit EDF5424, this unit contributes to the professional readiness of students by assisting them to articulate, justify and defend their particular stance. This shall be able to be defended in the main assessment item - an oral examination, conducted as a defence of their personal professional position paper.

Objectives: At the completion of this unit, students will be able to: - identify and critique a number of important and influential perspectives which have impacted education; - recognize the complexities of education as an intellectual and ethical inquiry and how this is challenged in various contexts such as school settings and government policies; - articulate and justify a personal professional stance on education; - actively give an account to demonstrate commitment and responsibility to one's personal professional stance on education both to significant arguments raised in the past and current concerns.

Assessment: Assignment (2000 words):50% + oral examination (equivalent to 2000 words): 50%

Contact Hours: 2 hours per week

Prerequisites: EDF1301 or EDF1303, EDF1302 or EDF1304, EDF2003, and EDF3002
