Synopsis: This unit is designed to demonstrate how integral research is for an educator, who as a professional is understood to be engaging with the research of others and conducting her/his own research. Students will also explore who research informs policy and in turn how policy impacts upon places of educative experiences (camps, community centres, schools). The unit will provide a foundation for those wishing to undertake more formalised research.
Objectives: As a result of studying this unit, students are expected to: 1. be aware of the how policy has impacted upon a specific educative setting. 2. Explore a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies 3. Complete a research proposal to establish a framework for a short research project. 4. Conduct a formal short research project for the benefit of a specific educative setting.
Assessment: A Minor Assessment equivalent to 1000 words (25%) + A Major Research Assignment equivalent to 3000 words (75%).
Contact Hours: 2 hours per week
Prerequisites: EDF1301 or EDF1303, EDF1302 or EDF1304, EDF2003, EDF3002, EDF3004, and EDF3005
