Synopsis: This unit examines key issues in contemporary Australian workplaces from the perspective of those engaged in facilitating or supporting learning in those workplaces. This unit aims to provide opportunities for interpersonal skill development and to assist students to identify ways of applying these skills in their workplaces. Key topics to be explored in this unit include: the impact of organisational culture and ethics on individuals and teams, interpersonal communication, negotiation skills, conflict resolution, mentoring, work-life balance, and stress management.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this Unit, students should be able to: 1. demonstrate awareness of workplace issues concerning individuals, teams and organisations 2. show increased confidence and competence in managing interpersonal relations in their workplaces 3. demonstrate an understanding of the skills required to be effective managers of themselves and other people.

Assessment: Assignment 1: Reading Review (1,500 words) 40% (Objective 1) + Assignment 2: Essay (2,500 words) 60% (Objectives 2 and 3)
